Sikh Helpline is a registered charity that is continuing to operate and provide support during this time of Coronavirus uncertainty. Sikh Helpline is a 24 hour phone and email service for confidential guidance and emotional support on various issues such as domestic abuse, additions, mental health, bullying, discrimination and any other issues.
At this time everyone has been affected in one way or another with all the recent changes and there have been implications due to COVID-19.
Sikh Helpline have been reached out to by organisations and network services in working even closer together to provide much needed support within the community.
COVID-19
We have created useful aids/links on our Facebook page and website to support and provide guidance to the public on issues they may face ranging from providing helpful videos in relation to health and hygiene to supporting those who have lost their loved ones due to COVID-19.
This guidance covers questions and answers, information about Coronavirus and information about changes within the process of losing our loved ones and their funeral services.
Delivering food parcels to those in need:
During this uncertain time when we all are trying to minimise risk of life as of result of COVID-19, the Sikh Helpline (SHL) and Guru Har Rai Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh Temple West Bromwich) have been working to ensure support is provided to vulnerable families and individuals during this period.
In addition we have received an increased number of calls regarding urgent food supplies the individual/families/organisations require.
We have been contacted by support workers from charities who are not able to meet these vulnerable people face to face at a much needed time of support and we have been able to reach out and provide essential food parcels and hygiene items working hand in hand with Guru Har Rai Gurdwara Sahib West Bromwich.
Sikh Helpline have created a page where we know of independent organisations nationwide providing much needed urgent food supplies for people are who vulnerable and in need.

What are we doing at the moment?
At the moment our volunteers are making weekly calls and providing emotional support to vulnerable people who have been struggling through domestic abuse and would like to have a chat with someone.
We are still taking calls as normal and providing extra support due to COVID-19.
Recently we have been working together with organisations to obtain a Kirpan back that was taken at an airport under the Offensive Weapons Act and after many emails, letters and communications throughout our network teams; we managed to get the Kirpan back and had great feedback:
‘Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, . Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Sikh Helpline, your hard work has paid off and it has been agreed to return my Kirpan, all your help highly appreciated’.
Sikh Helpline has a recent testimony in Jan 2020: https://www.sikhhelpline.com/did-not-want-to-live/
