I shall remember forever and will never forget.

Monday: my money was taken.

Wednesday: my uniform torn.
Thursday: my body pouring with blood.
Friday: it's ended.
Saturday: freedom.

What We Do

The 'Sikh Helpline' (0845 644 0704 UK) is a confidential telephone counseling and email inquiry service where you can get help and obtain information on Sikhism and cultural issues. It is run by trained people who are conversant in both English and Punjabi. Young Sikhs contact the Helpline about a wide range of issues - especially, but not isolated to, those mentioned in section A below :

 

A) SCHOOL & OTHER ISSUES

  • Issues regarding Sikhism (the "5 K's")
  • Bullying and Racism
  • Depression
  • Abuse
  • Addictions (smoking / drinking)
  • Problems at school or problems at home

B) INFORMATION CENTRE

  • Sikh events (important dates)
  • Access to internet/e-mail (global connection)
  • School projects on Sikhism (R.E.)
  • School/private visits to the Gurdwara (temple)

Lines are open 24 hours a day.

There was a 15 year old Sikh boy who managed to somehow get into a club, despite being underage. By the end of the night he was completely drunk to the point where he was vomiting and couldn’t walk and so he was put in to a taxi to take him home.

There was a young Sikh boy at secondary school level who was being bullied by a group of boys. There was one ring leader and the others used to just follow this one boy, but as time went on they also started to bully him and began pushing him around, beating him up and calling him names. Throughout his horrible ordeal he remained quiet and did not tell anyone about what he was going through. However, he eventually decided he couldn’t take it anymore and plucked up the courage to inform the school about the bullying but nothing solid happened (as no serious action was taken) and so the bullying continued.

That first day, when you started secondary school, many of us attempted to blend in, make some friends with whom you would spend many enjoyable years with. Meet people you can chill out and share your ups and downs with. Many of us had that chance and will remember our secondary school life to be the best and will never forget it, but there are some of us who don't and some of our youth today who find major difficulties in their school life. Not because they are struggling with their school work, actually a high percentage of our kids do quite well. But because they are outcaste by their class mates because of their religion.
